Taking stereoscopic photos doesn't mean you can ignore the need for thought. Quite the contrary; otherwise, the technique would be nothing but a hollow and empty art... Science without conscience..., as the saying goes!

When you consider the number of wars, repressive operations, foreign interference, massacres, and even exterminations in which the United States has been involved since its origins, starting with the almost systematic liquidation of the country's first inhabitants, the indigenous people, after or even during the so-called "War of Independence" against the British, to the quagmires of Iraq and Afghanistan, by way of Korea, Vietnam, and recently Libya..., you can reasonably wonder when on earth the American people will experience a whole decade without military intervention here or there. I'll be told that the decades of the Vietnam quagmire drove Boeing's stock price to record highs! I haven't forgotten 1914-18 or 1939-45, but it seems that each time, it was for a good cause.
The following archive discusses the great "intra-muros" slaughter known as the "Civil War," or in French, the "Guerre de Sécession." The first major "modern" war in history, it saw the belligerents vying with each other in cunningly, such as using children to supply gunners with gunpowder: smaller than adults, they were more agile, moved faster, and their small size made them harder targets for enemy sharpshooters. Of course, there were already stereoscopic photographic cameras (which makes these archives the very first 3D photos to have had a certain impact, insofar as, with the great reportage, stereoscopy came out of the laboratories), war artists too, like the one we see below, covering the famous battle of Gettysburg.(Source)
